AI-ASSISTED ANIMATION
Generative AI applied to character animation, visual development and video production.

I combine generative AI with traditional animation, compositing and editing to develop characters, environments and motion while keeping creative direction and final assembly under human control.

NINA RESOLVE — “O GAMBÁ”

AI-assisted character animation & episode production

Note: Due to legal usage rights issues, the video has no audio.

For this episode of Nina Resolve, I worked from an existing script, voice recordings, narration and character profile images supplied by the original creator autor e producer: Diógenes Maclyne.

I handled the visual production and final assembly of the episode, using generative AI as part of the animation and visual development workflow.

Process

  • Character animation: generated animated performances and acting from the supplied character images, using prompting and image-to-video workflows in Gemini and Kling AI.

  • Visual development: created backgrounds, props and additional visual elements with generative AI.

  • Decoupage & direction: translated the script and audio into shots, actions and visual sequences.

  • Editing & assembly: combined the generated animation, backgrounds, props, narration and dialogue into the final episode using Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

The goal was to use generative AI as a production tool while maintaining control over the storytelling, shot structure, timing and final edit.

TIMÓ — SHORT PROMOTIONAL VIDEOS

Cut-out animation & generative AI-assisted production

Timó is a series of short promotional videos created to support the launch and communication of a children's conservation book featuring a capuchin monkey.

The original illustrations were created by illustrator Renata Ramos, who provided the layered PSD artwork for animation.

Working from the original illustrations, I developed the videos by combining traditional 2D cut-out techniques with generative AI.

Process

  • Artwork preparation: separated and organized the original layered illustrations into individually animatable elements.

  • Cut-out animation: animated elements that could be efficiently separated and controlled using traditional 2D techniques.

  • AI-assisted animation: used Gemini, Kling AI and other generative tools to create expressions, complex movements and animation for elements that were more difficult to reproduce through conventional cut-out techniques.

  • Compositing & editing: combined the animated characters, environments, supplied narration and additional elements in Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • Final production: selected and integrated royalty-free music and assembled the final promotional pieces for social media.

The project explored a hybrid workflow, combining the control of traditional 2D animation with the speed and flexibility of generative AI.
